| 520 | _aPavonia spinifex (L.) Cav. and Barleria repens Nees are belonging to the largest genera of the Malvaceae and Acanthaceae family respectively. This study revealed a genetic identification of the DNA samples of both plants using the RAPD electrophoretic process. Macro & micro investigation of leaves, petioles and stems of selected plants were also carried out and revealed that the identification of micro and macro morphological characters of both plant parts. The phytochemical screening of the 70% ethanol extract of the aerial parts of B. repens Nees. and the leaves of P. spinfex (L.) Cav. revealed the presence of carbohydrates and / or glycosides, flavonoids, sterols and/or triterpenes, tannins. The volatiles of both plants were also analyzed by GC/MS. A total of twenty{u2013}six compounds and nineteen compounds were identified representing 90.86% and 85.00% of the total oil. for P. spinifex (L.) Cav and B. repens Nees respectively. The results of GC/MS of the saponifiable matter of B. repens Nees aerial parts and Pavonia spinifex (L.) Cav leaves, revealed the presence of twenty and thirty-one fatty acids in B. repens and P. spinifex respectively, The result of GC/MS analysis of the unsaponifiable fraction from B. repens Nees aerial parts and P. spinifex (L.) Cav leaves enabled the identification of forty-six and thirty-one compounds in B. repens and P. spinifex respectively | ||
