520 | _aIn this study samples were taken from environmental factors involved in industry process (water and raw materials) for one type of pharmaceutical syrup which contain different preservative (parabens, sorbitol and glycerin).Total number of finished product samples, which had been studied was 213 samples. The microbial contaminant was isolated from finished products and identified as Burkholderia cepacia. However, microbiological analysis of raw materials didn't result any bacterial isolates while from 384 water samples, 35 isolates were identified as B.cepacia.This study aims to provide information about the main source of contamination in pharmaceutical drugs during their manufacturing process. B.cepacia was the major contaminant bacteria had been isolated from finished syrup and water samples. B.cepacia as an objectionable organism in non-sterile medications, it is a clear pathogen when introduced into the air passages of a susceptible population. The primary hazard of this organism seems to be those with cystic fibrosis (or predisposed to pneumonia) and the use of inhaled medications. They can resist many disinfectants, cleansers and is not affected by many preservatives. B.cepacia has also a great ability to form biofilms and contaminate plastics, metals, water systems and consequently pharmaceutical facilities | ||
