520 _aIntroduction: Burnout is a form of chronic stress related to one's job which comprises three dimensions (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and lack of personal accomplishment) and it is pervasive among helping professions such as doctors and nurses as they are exposed to multiple stressors in the working environment.Objectives: to Shed light on the prevalence of burnout syndrome among the surgical health team in Cairo university hospitals. Subjects and methods: An observational cross-sectional study with a sample of 100 doctors and nurses from surgical specialties in Cairo University Hospital with inclusion criteria: Adult males and females (aged between 25-40) and working in surgical specialties in Cairo University hospital, by application of semi structured interview, Arabic translation of The Maslach Burnout Inventory{u2013} Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) and beck depression inventory(BDI). Results: there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups regarding depersonalization score (DP), emotional exhaustion and depression but no statistically significant difference between the two groups regarding lack of personal accomplishment (PA). Conclusion: Burnout is prevalent among health care staff of Cairo University Hospital and it contributes to more absence, difficult work conditions and tension at work
