| 520 | _aLongitudinal studies showed that that decreased serum albumin concentration might be associated with increased risk of major adverse cardiac events in patients with ACS. The aim of this study was to study the relation between serum albumin on admission and heart failure, life threatening arrhythmias and in hospital mortality in patients with ACS. The second aim was to discover the prevalence and correlates of hypoalbuminia in this group of patients. Our study included 100 ACS patients aged 40 to 83 years with no previous history of heart failure or other clinical conditions associated with hypoalbuminemia. All patients underwent clinical evaluation, serial ECGs, and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). We analyzed the association between the level of serum albumin and in-hospital outcomes; new onset heart failure, life threatening arrhythmias and in-hospital mortality. The prevalence of hypoalbuminemia in this study patients was 30 %. Patients were divided into two groups according to serum albumin level (group A: serum albumin <3.5 g/dl and group B: serum albumin >3.5 g/dl). The rate of heart failure was 40% in hypoalbuminemic group, whereas it was 15.7% in patients with normal albumin level. The rate of life-threatening arrhythmias was 10% in hypoalbuminemic group versus 1.4% in patients with normal albumin level. The rate of in-hospital mortality was 10% in hypoalbuminemic group while 1.4% in patients with normal albumin level | ||
