Aim: Beam hardening is considered highly common encountered artifacts in the CBCT scans. Metal artefacts can disrupt the original details of structures and objects in the radiograph that are adjacent to or near a highly attenuating object, and they can also project across the image field of view, resulting in inaccurate grey scale values for areas not immediately adjacent to the highly attenuating material. This study was planned to investigate the effect of metal artefact reduction (MAR) of cone beam computed tomography on the accuracy of implant linear measurements. Methodology: In this study eighteen patients with dental implants inserted in their jaws will be scanned by SOREDEX CRANEX® 3D cone beam computed tomography machine in two radiology centers. The resultant images will be reconstructed with and without metal artifact reduction (MAR) as a variable with other parameters being constant in all scans and the linear measurements acquired from the resultant images will be compared with the real measurements length and width of titanium dental implant previously documented from the manufacturer information. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between implant length and width measurements scanned with SOREDEX CRANEX® 3D compared to the real implant measurements, however Implant width measurement error percentage with MAR showed statistically significantly lower median value than without MAR
