Radical hysterectomy is the standard treatment for women with cancer cervix in the early stages with a 5-year survival rate reaching around 90 percent. However, the Wertheim-Meigs RH is accompanied by long-term sequelae including bladder, sexual, and defecation dysfunction due to the damage of the hypogastric nerves, pelvic splanchnic nerves, and to the proximal and distal parts of the inferior hypogastric plexus.<br/>Despite RH having good survival results but at the cost of bladder dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, colorectal motility disorders, lymphedema where autonomic nerve damage during surgery has a fundamental role in the development of these complications. <br/>Study aims<br/>•Evaluating post operative pelvic dysfunctions including urinary dysfunction, sexual dysfunction and anorectal dysfunction after NSRH <br/>•Evaluating the oncologic outcome after NSRH<br/>•Comparing pelvic dysfunctions and oncologic outcome after NSRH to CRH<br/>Conclusions <br/>•NSRH is a safe technically feasible procedure whose preliminary results points to less post-operative urinary, sexual and anorectal dysfunctions when compared to CRH.<br/>•The preliminary results of DFS and OS in both NSRH and CRH are similar but lack statistical significance due to relatively small sample size.<br/>•On multivariate analysis the independent factors that affected the disease-free survival were the histopathological type and blood loss.<br/>•On multivariate analysis the independent factors that significantly affected the overall survival were the histopathological type and blood loss.<br/>•Increasing the sample size and long term follow up is recommended for better validation of results.<br/> |
