Summary, etc. | Background: Every year, many people suffer from acute thermal injuries that need medical care. Patients who have more severe burns enter an increasingly persistent period characterized by hyper metabolism, chronic inflammation, and lean body mass loss, all of which may hinder wound recovery. Low-level laser therapy and Polarized light therapy are two effective methods for accelerating wound healing. Purpose: To compare between the effect of low level laser therapy and the effect of polarized light therapy on the surface area of burn wound. Materials and methods: sixty patients suffering from deep partial thickness upper limb burns (2nd degree burns) with burn total body surface area ranging from (20% to 35%). Their ages range from 20-40 years, were randomly assigned into two groups: group A with burn mean total body surface area 28.53 ± 4.87 received low level LASER therapy, three sessions/ week for four weeks while group B with burn mean total body surface area 29.47 ± 4.95 received Polarized light therapy daily for four weeks. Pre- and post-treatment measurements of the wound surface area were conducted. Results: Paired t test was applied to compare between surface area of burn wound pre and post treatment in each group. Unpaired t test was applied for comparison of burn wound surface area between groups. T test showed that surface area of burn wound was significantly decreased post treatment as compared to pre one (p=0.001). The percentage of improvement for right and left upper limb in group A was 64.10% and 60.14% respectively. While the percentage of improvement for right and left upper limb in group B was 37.53% and 43.48% respectively. As well as there was a significant improvement in the mean values of burn wound surface area in group A more than group B (p=0.0001). Conclusion: low level laser therapy had a superior effect on wound healing post burn as compared to polarized light therapy in patients with upper limb deep partial thickness second degree burn. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
