Summary, etc. |
Nephrotoxicity is a major complication and a dose limiting factor for cisplatin therapy. Recent evidence suggests that inflammation and oxidative stress may contribute to the pathogenesis of cisplatin induced acute renal failure. A large number of natural products and dietary components have been evaluated as potential chemoprotective agents. The present study was performed to explore the effect of pretreatment with curcumin (60 mg / kg) and grape seed extract (200 mg / kg) either alone or in combination with valsartan (30 mg / kg) in cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity in rats. Blood samples were collected to measure renal function tests including serum level of creatinine (Cr) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) as well as serum level of c- reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF- Ü) and interleukin 10 (IL - 10). Furthermore, kidneys were excised for histological examination and for the measurement of oxidative stress biomarkers including renal contents of malondialdehyde MDA |
