Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine- Department of Medical Biochemistry Summary: Background: VEGF has a role in various diseases involving endothelial cells including lupus glomerulonephritis caused by immune complex deposition. Objectives: to study the association between VEGF polymorphism with susceptibility to SLE as well as lupus nephritis and its relation to VEGF protein level.subjects and methods:Acase control study involving 40 SLE patients without nephritis and 40 SLE patients with nephritis and 20 healthy controls. Polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment lenght polymorphism(PCR- RFLP)methods were applied to detect polymorphism in VEGF promoter +405 and -460 and VEGF protein level was measured by ELISA.Results:. There was a significant difference in the VEGF 405 GG (52.5%) and VEGF TT 460 (57.5%) genotypes in lupus nephritis patients compared to the control subjects (35%) ,(45%) respectively
