Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Biochemistry Summary: Multiple myeloma is a malignant neoplasm of plasma cells that commonly results in overproduction of large amounts of monoclonal immunoglobulin. Insulin like growth Factor1 (IGF1) andinterleukin- 6 (IL6) promote the proliferation and survival of myeloma cells. The present work is intended to study IGF- 1 and IL- 6 as key cytokines and prognostic biomarkers in Egyptian multiple myeloma patients to help in defining the biological profile and hence additional therapeutic lines for the disease. This study includes 40 newly diagnosed multiple mMyeloma patients (29 males and 11females) their age range from 35 - 70 years and 20 healthy controls matching in ages and sex. The enrolled patients were referred to Kasr Elaini centre of clinical oncology and radiation Cairo university. ELISA technique was used to measure IGF- 1 and IL- 6 in subjects{u2019} sera. Patients were included in the survival analysis after induction therapy with both steroids and thalidomide. IGF- 1 and IL- 6 were measured by ELISA before and after treatment. This study showed that IGF- 1 and IL- 6 after treatment lower than before treatment but IGF-1 level was more significantly responding to treatment with Pvalue 0.001
