Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - Department of Veterinary Pharmacology Summary: This study aimed to investigate the serum disposition kinetics of cefquinome, a fourth generation cephalosporin, in rabbits following a single intramuscular (IM) injection and single oral (PO) administration at a dose 10 mg/kg b.wt in healthy and Pasteurella multocida-infected rabbits, using a parallel design single dose study. Interaction of cefquinome with flunixin meglumine was also tested. Serum samples of cefquinome were measured using HPLC-MS/MS. The results showed that Serum cefquinome disposition kinetic was best fitted to a two-compartment open model after IM and PO dosage in healthy and Pasteurella multocida-infected rabbits. Following IM, Peaks of cefquinome concentrations (Cmax) were 9.05 ± 0.06 and 8.12 ± 0.11 æg/ml attained at 0.95 ± 0.04 and 1.01 ± 0.08 h (Tmax), respectively. The elimination half-lives were 2.60 ± 0.04 and 2.32 ± 0.06 hrs, respectively. Values of area under the curve were 43.26± 0.69 and 34.69 ± 1.03 {uF06D}g. h/ml, respectively. Mean residence times were 4.12 ± 0.05 and 3.72 ± 0.07 h, respectively. The pharmacokinetic profile of cefquinome displays a good absorption and long elimination half-life in rabbits
