Thesis (M.A.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Arts - Department of English
This study investigated the impact of an integrative Focus on Form approach (FonF) on promoting L2 learning. It sought to examine the efficacy of two FonF techniques (input enhancement and dictogloss) in improving the grammatical accuracy of EFL Egyptian students. The target structures were 20 phrasal verbs. The study employed a quasi-experimental design that involved three phases, i.e., pre-treatment, treatment, and post-treatment. It lasted for three weeks and it was conducted in six consecutive sessions. The participants of the study were 110 EFL adult learners studying at the Center for Languages and Translation at Cairo University. They were divided into three groups. The first experimental group included 38 students. They were exposed to the input enhancement technique. The second experimental group included 37 students. They were taught the target structures through using a dictogloss technique. The control group included 35 students. They were provided with traditional deductive instruction in the target structures. The findings showed improvement among the three groups in their abilities to use the target structures. However, the two experimental groups showed more accuracy in using the target verbs than the control group. The study manifested the effectiveness of FonF over deductive grammar teaching approach
