Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology Summary: Treatment of early stage of liver disease; hepatic inflammation can prevent progression to serious liver diseases. Unfortunately, the available conventional/synthetic pharmacotherapeutic options for liver diseases are inadequate and can have serious adverse effects. In the present study, hepatic inflammation was induced by IP injection of TAA in a dose of 100 mg / kg once/week for 4 weeks. Male albino rats (120-160g) were divided into 8 groups; group 1: normal control, group 2: TAA induced hepatic inflammation group, group 3-8 received TAA and treated with silymarin (positive control) (50 mg / kg), resveratrol (10 mg / kg), eugenol (10.7 mg / kg), LP (400 mg / kg), hesperidin (40 mg / kg) and HA (100 mg / kg), respectively. All treatments were given orally for 4 weeks. The tested compounds were examined with the regard to their effects on the following parameters: biochemical parameters including; liver function tests, lipid peroxidation and antioxidant markers and inflammatory cytokines markers. Histopathological and immunohistochemical examination including; caspase-3, nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-кB) and CYP2E1 were also examined. Treatment with resveratrol, eugenol, HA and silymarin caused normalization of ALT and AST values. LP and hesperidin decreased ALT and AST values but were unable to normalize the values
