Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmaceutics
Novel drug delivery dosage forms can provide improved benefits as enhancement in bioavailability, reduction of adverse effects and economic benefits. Elderly people may experience deterioration in their physiological and physical abilities which may lead to encountering difficulties in taking conventional dosage forms due to dysphagia. Carvedilol is Ü1/ non-cardioselective Ý-blocker that is used in the treatment of hypertension and many cardiovascular disorders. It is insoluble in water, intestinal fluids and gastric fluids that undergoes extensive first pass effect and has oral bioavailability of only 25-35%. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to enhance the bioavailability through preparation of carvedilol nanoparticles to enhance dissolution and so absorption. Also, incorporation of the prepared nanoparticles in a gel form for buccal application to bypass the first pass effect and enhance the bioavailability
