Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Ora (Radiology and Diagnosis) Summary: Objectives: Assessment of accuracy and reliability of planmeca promax 3D MID® CBCT machine as an imaging modality in mandibular linear measurements compared with real linear measurement. Methods: The study is a cross sectional prospective study performed on 30 dry mandibles obtained from the anatomy department of Faculty of medicine, Cairo university. For each mandible, three sites were selected .In each site, two measurements were measured using a digital caliper. Gutta-percha markers were glued on the marked areas labially/buccally and lingually to serve as reference points in the software measurements after CBCT imaging. The Mandibles were scanned using planmeca proMax 3D Mid CBCT machine using 90 kVp, 8 m A, (Ø20cm x10 cm) field of view (FOV), and resolution of 400 æm voxel at an exposure time of 13.5 seconds. Measurements were done by two blinded radiologists independently in 2 different sessions. The results yielded was subjected to Intra- and inter-observer agreement was assessed using intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). Bland-altman plot (differences-vs-means plot) is used to test the agreement between two quantitative measurements by studying the mean difference and constructing limits of agreement. Results: There was excellent correlation between measurements obtained from CBCT images of olanameca oromax 3D Mid® machine and real measurements in both vertical and horizontal direction. There was excellent inter and inter observer reliability. Conclusion: Mandibular linear measurements driven from CBCT images of planameca promax 3D Mid® machine are accurate, reproducible and reliable in both the horizontal and vertical directions
