Dissertation note: Thesis M.A.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Arts- Department of English Summary: The present study aims to compare two Arabic translations of C.S. Lewis{u2019} The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe which is written for children and abounds with many Christian allegories, to investigate how translators resolve the problem of cultural differences and obstacles that could hinder the child readers from comprehending and enjoying a literary work. The first translation is a paper book by the professional translator Said Baz and the second is a digital translation by a group of amateur translators supervised by Mohammed Al dawakhli. The comparison relies on Venuti{u2019}s foreignization and/or domestication strategies as solutions that are used to overcome the cultural difference problem. Analyzing paratextual and formal elements as well as cultural elements in the two translations, the study asserts that the translations of children{u2019}s literature, especially those works which refer the reader to cultural and historical 2truths3, reveal the translator{u2019}s ideology and his socio-cultural background. Influenced by his ideology and social cultural background, each translator opts for particular strategies in an attempt to resolve the problem of cultural differences and make the final product appealing to the feelings and perceptions of the young readers
