Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Ophthalmology
Different ablation profiles are designed in attempts to achieve a perfect optical system. In a summary of types of ablation profiles in corneal laser surgery, treatments were divided into those based on the total optical system (the classic munnerlyn{u2019}s formula, wavefront-guided profiles, and wavefront - optimized profiles), and those based on the cornea (topography - guided profiles and aspheric / Q - factor - adjusted profiles). Some studies have compared different with variable results. Differences in inclusion criteria, study design, laser platforms, and surgeon variables may explain the varied results. In general, the change in postoperative HOAs after customized or optimized ablations is less than that for conventional, due to treatment of preexisting HOAs and / or less induction of new HOAs
