520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Introduction: Worldwide attention for paediatric burns that affect long-
term functionality, quality of life. Potential evidence regarding virtual
reality (VR) systems also have been studied and shown some promise in
procedural pain control and encouraging way for functional exercises, and
well-known support mechanisms alongside multimodal therapeutic
approaches may reduce overall anxiety, thereby mitigating the experience
of pain in the recovery. This research aimed to declare the difference
between using immersive virtual reality versus passive virtual reality on
pain management, and improvement of joints` mobility in paediatric burn
patients.
Material and methods: Sixty children with acute upper extremity 2nd
degree thermal burn injury. TBSA calculated between 20 to 30 %. Cause
of burn were chosen among burn caused by open flames, hot liquids, hot
objects, steam or chemical burns. Circumferential burn patients were
included in the study after medical stability insurance.
Participants were distributed into two equal groups. Each group underwent
treatment over 8 weeks (3 sessions per week). Group A underwent
immersive virtual reality program combined with a traditional
physiotherapy program comprising stretching exercises and splinting.
While Group B underwent virtual reality, program combined with a
traditional physiotherapy program comprising stretching exercises and
splinting. Pain intensity level, upper extremity disabilities, and its joints`
range of motion were evaluated before and after the intervention using a
Color visual analogue Scale (cVAS), Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and
Hand (DASH) and digital goniometer, respectively.
Results: Both groups A and B exhibited significant improvements in cVAS
scores, DASH and reported upper extremity joints` range of motion scores
(p <0.001). However, Group A achieved greater improvements in all
measurements compared to Group B (p < 0.001).
Conclusion: Both immersive and passive virtual reality effectively
modulate pain intensity and upper extremity joints` range of motion during
rehabilitation for children with acute upper extremity 2nd degree thermal
burn injury
520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
