| Summary, etc. | Background: Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is a common inadequately <br/>treated complaint among adult females; it negatively impacts their quality <br/>of life and is considered one of the main causes of their absenteeism from <br/>school or work. Purpose: To determine the effect of bioptron on pain <br/>intensity, pressure pain threshold, serum progesterone levels, <br/>dysmenorrhea symptom severity, and quality of life in females with PD. <br/>Participants and Methods: This randomized controlled clinical trial <br/>enrolled 58 females with PD, aged 18-25 years, with BMI < 30 kg/m². <br/>Participants were randomly allocated into two equal groups. Control group <br/>A (n=28) received a single oral dose of 300,000 units of cholecalciferol <br/>(vitamin D) 5 days before menstrual onset for 3 consecutive cycles. Study <br/>group B (n=28) received the same vitamin D supplementation plus 20-<br/>minute Bioptron light therapy sessions for 7 days preceding menstruation <br/>and during the first three days of menstrual flow, continuing for 3 <br/>consecutive cycles. Assessment before and after intervention included pain <br/>intensity (visual analogue scale [VAS]), pressure pain threshold (PPT) <br/>(algometry), serum progesterone levels, dysmenorrhea symptom severity <br/>(WaLIDD Score), and quality of life (Quality-of-life enjoyment and <br/>satisfaction [Q–LES–QSF]). Additionally, follow-up assessments for <br/>VAS, WaLIDD, and Q–LES–QSF were conducted during the fourth <br/>menstrual cycle. Results: Group B showed significantly greater <br/>improvements in pain intensity, WaLIDD scores, and Q–LES–QSF scores <br/>compared to Group A (p < 0.05), both post-treatment and at follow-up. <br/>Additionally, a significantly greater increase in PPT was observed in Group <br/>B post-treatment (p < 0.05). However, post-treatment serum progesterone <br/>levels did not differ significantly between the two groups (p>0.05). <br/>Conclusion: Bioptron light therapy, when combined with vitamin D <br/>supplementation, demonstrated superior efficacy in reducing pain and <br/>improving quality of life in females with primary dysmenorrhea. |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية العلمية: يُعد عُسر الطمث الأولي (PD) من الشكاوى الشائعة والغير معالجة بشكل كافٍ لدى الإناث البالغات والتي لها تأثير سلبي على جودة الحياة، كما يُعتبر من الأسباب الرئيسية لتغيب الإناث عن العمل أو الدراسة. الهدف: هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تقييم تأثير البيوبترون على شدة الألم، درجات تحمل الألم نتيجة الضغط، مستويات البروجستيرون في الدم، شدة أعراض عسر الطمث، وجودة الحياة لدى الإناث المصابات بعُسر الطمث الأولي. المشاركات والطرق: تم إجراء تجربة سريرية عشوائية محكمة على 58 أنثى تتراوح أعمارهن بين 18 و25 عامًا، جميعهن مصابات بعُسر الطمث الأولي ولديهن مؤشر كتلة جسم أقل من 30 كجم/م². تم تقسيم المشاركات عشوائيًا إلى مجموعتين متساويتين: تلقت المجموعة الضابطة (أ) وعددهن 28 مشاركة جرعة فموية واحدة مقدارها 300,000 وحدة من فيتامين د (كوليكالسيفيرول) قبل بدء الدورة الشهرية بخمسة أيام، وذلك لثلاث دورات شهرية متتالية. وتلقت مجموعة الدراسة (ب) وعددهن 28 مشاركة نفس مكمل فيتامين د، بالإضافة إلى جلسات علاج بضوء البيوبترون لمدة 20 دقيقة يوميًا، قبل بدء الدورة الشهرية بسبعة أيام واستمرت خلال أول ثلاثة أيام من نزول الدورة الشهرية، وذلك لثلاث دورات شهرية متتالية. تم تقييم جميع المشاركات قبل وبعد فترة العلاج من خلال قياس شدة الألم بواسطة مقياس شدة الألم (VAS)، وقياس درجات تحمل الألم نتيجة الضغط باستخدام جهاز الألجومتر، وقياس مستويات هرمون البروجستيرون في الدم، وتقييم شدة أعراض عسر الطمث باستخدام مقياس WaLIDD، وتقييم جودة الحياة باستخدام استبيان .Q–LES–QSF كما تم إجراء متابعة لمقاييس VAS -WaLIDD - Q–LES–QSF خلال الدورة الشهرية الرابعة بعد انتهاء فترة العلاج. النتائج: أظهرت نتائج هذه الدراسة أن مجموعة الدراسة (ب) حققت تحسنات ذات دلالة إحصائية أكبر من المجموعة الضابطة (أ) في شدة الألم، ودرجات مقياسWaLIDD، وجودة الحياة وفقًا لاستبيانQ–LES–QSF، وذلك بعد انتهاء العلاج وأيضًا خلال المتابعة. كما أظهرت مجموعة الدراسة (ب) ارتفاعًا ذو دلالة إحصائية في درجات تحمل الألم نتيجة الضغط بعد العلاج. أما بالنسبة لمستويات هرمون البروجستيرون في الدم، فلم تُسجّل فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين المجموعتين بعد العلاج. الاستنتاج: العلاج بضوء البيوبترون مع مكملات فيتامين د يساهم بشكل فعال في تقليل الألم وتحسين جودة الحياة لدى الإناث المصابات بعسر الطمث الأولي. |
