The main issue of this study is to test whether mithramycin is able to augment HbF production in erythroid precursor cells from healthy human subjects as well as from B - thalassemia patients in comparison to hydroxyurea.This is a mandatory preliminary step in the evaluation of mithramycin as a potential drug for the development of treatment for these diseases
