The current study aimed to explore utilization and problems of nursing manpower at Ministry of Health hospitals in Beni-Suef governorate. A descriptive exploratory design was used. The study was conducted at ten hospitals which provide both inpatient and out-patient services. The hospitals included in the study were affiliated to Ministry of Health at Beni- Suef governorate. Sample of this study included; simple random sample of 495 nurses were selected to assess their opinions about nature of the work and its problems, and nurses{u2019} personal records of the total (2024) nurses were retrospectively audited. Data were collected using two tools; nurse's oppinionnaire about nature of the work and its problems, and auditing checklist to review nurse's personal records retrospectively for one year. The results showed that (18.9%) of total nursing manpower were unutilized at Beni-Suef Hospitals. Nursing utilization level from nurses' perspectives (53.6%) was moderate at the Rural Hospitals, and the lowest utilization levels were at Beni-Suef General Hospital and Specialty Hospitals by about two thirds of their nurses' opinions (67.4% & 65.8% respectively). The most reported staff problems by nurses were lack of supply and facilities and lack of training programs as work problem (39.3% & 38.7% respectively). Also the highest 40% of the nurses suggested that respecting nursing staff can enhance their utilization. The study concluded that there was a marked nurses shortage at Beni-Suef General hospital and the unutilized nurses were one third of the total nurses. The study recommended designing nursing manpower plan based on relevant data and estimated future needs, continuous training programs, empowering nursing administrators with adequate authority, developing electronic information system, and earlier retirement age at 55years old
