Empowerment is culture - bound expression that may vary in meaning across different cultures. It is the expansion of freedom of choice, ability to act, autonomously, control of resources and ability to make decisions. Efforts to improve nursing working conditions are critical to retaining nurses currently in the system and attracting newcomers to the profession. The present study aim's to evaluate the effect of an empowerment program on nurse leader's behavior and workplace environment, through quasi experimental design, pre and post - test; in three hospitals. Two samples were used in the study; Head Nurses and staff nurses selected from critical care units, general ward and pediatric department. Leader empowering behavior scale (LEB) was used by staff nurses to rate their leader's empowering behavior, and the condition of work effectiveness questioner II (CWEQII) was used to measure the structure of workplace empowerment. The current study revealed a statistically significant difference among the empowering behaviors of nurse's leaders by implementing the program. While the results indicated moderate level of structure workplace empowerment which was affected positively with some of personal characteristics of staff nurses as education level and experience
