Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Ophthalmology Summary: AcrySof PanOptix trifocal IOL is one of the latest presbyopia correcting IOLs based on an optical technology which is different from other traditional trifocal IOLs, it is designed to help patients accomplish near and intermediate tasks with greater ease especially, at intermediate distance 60 cm not 80 cm. Our aim is to evaluate the performance of PanOptix trifocal IOL in terms of safety, efficacy, predictability and to compare contrast sensitivity, quality of vision and the aberrations induced between PanOptix trifocal IOL and Acrysof monofocol IOL. Methods :- our study is a prospective interventional non randomized study conducted on 38 eyes, 21 patients underwent phacoemulsification divided into 2 groups, group (A) implanted with PanOptix trifocal IOL,and group ( B) implanted with AcrySof monofocal IOL. Results:- PanOptix showed excellent safety, efficacy and predictability. In comparison to the monofocal group, contrast sensitivity was slightly impaired without affecting the daily activities of the patients. In addition, spectacle independence was significantly higher in the group implanted with PanOptix than the monofocal group. Conclusion :- we conclude that the success of implantation of AcrySof PanOptix IOL depends on many criteria to be fulfilled; like choosing the suitable biometry formula, thorough pre operative assessment including anterior and posterior segment examination, corneal topography, and choosing the best candidate
