Dissertation note: Thesis (M.A.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Arts - Department of English Summary: This study aims to investigate the differential effect of two types of CF namely, recasts and clarification requests, on EFL learners' self-correction and which one of the two types is more effective than the other in boosting the acquisition process of the target grammatical structures; past tense of irregular verbs and plural morphemes. To fulfill the purpose of the study, 75 Palestinian learners were randomly selected from Alazhar university in the Gaza Strip and were randomly divided into three equal groups, two experimental groups and one control group. The experimental groups received recasts and clarification requests on students' erroneous use of the irregular past tense verbs and wrong use of plural morphemes while the control group received no correction and feedback. To conduct the study, the pretest was administered in one week. The treatment was performed in 6 weeks. Each participant was asked to perform two tasks. First, students were asked to perform a narrative story based on a set of pictures. Then, they were asked to answer 3 questions about the memorable things in their lives in the past. An immediate post-test was administered after the treatment to check the effect of the recasts and clarification requests on students' oral grammatical accuracy and their ability for self-correction. Three weeks later, a delayed post-test was given to measure long-term treatment effects. The three tests were the same but with different pictures and stories
